We are bringing our 4-night adventure at Jade Mountain to a close in style.  Last night I had the distinct privilege of sharing a table for dinner and drinks with our affable hosts — the owners and operators of this magical resort — Nick and Karolin Troubetzkoy.

Over three hours of fine wine and even finer food, we talked late into the night under a clear star-filled sky at the resort’s premium restaurant, the Jade Mountain Club.  We reminisced about Nick’s family roots originally in Russia and later in British Columbia though his heart and soul have clearly completed their immigration to St. Lucia.  Karolin entertained us with stories from her fascinating duties as Honourary Consul for Germany while Nick punctuated the discussion by injecting his love for fine automobiles (German and otherwise).  Somewhere amidst the revelry I even managed to sneak in a few questions about the incredible story that is Jade Mountain.

If the entire room had consisted solely of the bathroom, I still would have been impressed.

Returning to our room from this magical dinner, we found that our Major Domo had prepared a special final night for us in paradise.  The room towels were sculpted into a puppy lounging on our bed complete with a genuine fern tail and my sunglasses co-opted for eyes.  The chromatherapy lights in our pool were softly oscillating through blue, green, yellow and violet hues.  Candles had been lit all around the room and our jacuzzi tub had a hot bubble bath already drawn and waiting for us.

A special surprise from our Major Domo (butler) – candlelit bubble bath to cap off the evening.

It’s always hard to be hit by the cold reality of returning from holiday to the frigid cold in Toronto but I fear that our transition from Jade Mountain will prove particularly jarring.  How did I ever manage before without a full-sized swimming pool in my bedroom?  Sigh.

Jade Mountain, St. Lucia.
