One of my favourite elements of any travel excursion is an opportunity to photograph the places I travel to and the people I meet while I’m there. As my wife and kids will no doubt attest, Daddy is not happy on vacation unless he’s got a camera around his neck.
Having said that, one of my biggest fears is returning from a week away only to find that the 200 photos I shot lack much real inspiration and excitement. Over the past several years I have consciously been striving to improve the quality of these shots and I’m just starting to experience some success.
Here’s an example from a recent trip to Costa Rica. In the past, having come across an impressive Iguana like this subject, I would have simply snapped a shot of his entire elegant body and left it at that.
Boring iguana.
Now that I’m thinking more like a “photographer”, I also took this shot.
Awesome iguana.
You tell me, which one makes a better picture?
